Federal Employees & Good Government
Before resigning to run for Congress, Ahsan was a federal employee with over 15 years of creditable service. Through his service at the Government Accountability Office he came to appreciate the concept of good government, and he developed a deep understanding of public policy on numerous issues and concerns.
Ahsan is a proponent of government social safety net programs like Medicaid and Social Security, and he understands how the U.S. government can fund these programs through cost-saving and revenue-generating measures within our federal budget. Working with his congressional colleagues, he will explore opportunities to reduce expenditures and redundancies in federal programs, thus improving efficiency and saving money for the taxpayer.
Ahsan also understands the concerns of federal workers and will champion the issue of GS pay compression and the forgotten fight to lower FERS-FRAE contributions from 4.1% to the FERS contribution rate of 0.8%. He also favors a shorter transition period to offering Tricare Select benefits to federal workers who also serve as Reservists or in the National Guard. Waiting until 2030 is too long.
Having observed their hard work and dedication firsthand, Ahsan believes that federal workers are the backbone and unrecognized day-to-day heroes of the federal government. He will fight aggressively to protect federal workers and ensure that our government conducts its responsibilities efficiently and effectively.
