Ahsan believes a strong, vibrant economy and responsible but compassionate immigration policy are intertwined. Since our country’s founding, immigrants have been at the core of our national identity. That is no less true today. Immigrants bring new ideas and passion to our communities and enrich the fabric of America. Ahsan is the son of immigrants who proudly gave their all in service to our country.

If elected, Ahsan will work with congressional colleagues to overcome the long-standing legal gridlock and enact comprehensive reforms that address the flaws in our immigration system. All people should be treated with dignity and respect. Scenes of masses of desperate migrants trying to enter at our southern border are indicative of a broken system that serves neither Democrats nor Republicans. We must improve security at our borders while protecting the families who are seeking refuge and opportunity in the United States.

Ahsan favors increasing the number of immigration judges and court staff to process asylum requests more efficiently. Entry to the United States is a federal responsibility and must be handled appropriately to alleviate the concerns of and burdens on southern states. Ahsan also favors targeted, tailored job training for legal immigrants that is designed to quickly integrate them and their families as viable members who contribute substantively to the wellbeing of their communities.
