Who is Ahsan?
Ahsan (pronounced “essen”) was born at the old DeWitt Army Hospital on Fort Belvoir in 1982. His father emigrated from Pakistan in 1974 and retired as Sergeant Major in the U.S. Army. Ahsan is a father of 7 children, one of whom he and his wife lost to a miscarriage seven years ago. He is currently a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves and serves as a Judge Advocate (military lawyer). Ahsan is an Assistant Scoutmaster to a local Scout Troop within the 11th District.
Ahsan previously worked as a federal prosecutor before joining the National Institute of Standards and Technology as a legal specialist in cybersecurity. Until recently, Ahsan was a Senior Attorney working across the government on cybersecurity issues at the Government Accountability Office (GAO). He resigned his position at GAO to challenge Gerry Connolly in the Fairfax County Democratic Primary on June 18th, 2024.
Why is Ahsan running?
Soldiers appearing in photos do not imply their official or unofficial endorsement of the Nasar for Congress campaign.
Ahsan believes Gerry Connolly is a career politician who has done a lot of good things for Fairfax County through his almost 30 years in various political offices.
Ahsan wants to build on Gerry’s accomplishments while moving aggressively to address issues that are currently not receiving the level of attention they deserve. Gerry’s position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and his unwillingness to more forcefully call for a ceasefire show that he is losing touch with those he represents.
In addition, Gerry’s lack of initiative in helping to establish a framework that will lead to the safe adoption and use of artificial intelligence is of great concern, given the integral role that information technology and cybersecurity play in Fairfax County’s economy. Ahsan is concerned that Gerry’s lack of thoughtful positions on both the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and artificial intelligence adoption issues ultimately make America less safe and respected and unnecessarily puts our standing in the world in danger. Ahsan’s sense of duty compelled him to resign from his government job and run for Congress.
Ahsan is a citizen soldier and is now proud to run as a “citizen public servant” with a firm belief in accountability, term limits, and the need to constantly push new generations forward into leadership. With limited time on the election calendar, Ahsan is now racing for a better future.
